We’re excited to announce that 18Birdies was the official live scoring app for the Mediocre Golf Association World Championship at Revere Golf Club in Las Vegas. The extreme number of strokes recorded by these players was a true test of our technology, but we came through with flying colors.

The Mediocre Golf Association is an amateur golf league established in 2006 that now has over 80 chapters across the world. Each chapter runs eight stroke play tournaments from March to October.  The top performers from the season travel to Las Vegas to compete for the World Championship Belt. Any good golfers out there that are below an 18 handicap have “penalty strokes” that bring them back to 18-handicap territory (e.g. a 12 handicap will add 6 strokes to their gross score to get their tournament score). If any golfer breaks 80 in a tournament, they are declared non-mediocre, DQed and told to go join the Web.com tour.

“The guys loved the pin accurate GPS,” said MGA El Presidente Jon “Lucky Kick” Morley. “Which is pretty surprising, seeing as it left no mystery as to exactly how short their drives were and how far they still had to go. The live leaderboard was awesome and added a bonus hit of endorphins after a good hole, when you get to open it up and see how many spots you moved up. However I recommend you don’t check it after carding a 12. Don’t ask…”

It was a great tournament and 18Birdies looks forward to supporting the Mediocre Golf Association Chapters and the World Championship again next year.
