Whether you’re playing for money or just playing for bragging rights, here are 18Birdies’ Top 3 Side Games that our users play in the app to make golf more fun.

Who doesn’t love a little side game when you’re playing a round of golf with friends? If you’re new to the game, did you know that you can play more than just the regular game of golf? They’re called “side games” and in the 18Birdies app, we make it easier for you to keep track and play those games while scoring and playing a round in the app. Whether or not you actually bet on them, that’s up to you, but it can definitely make things that much more interesting!

We have the classics like Skins, Nassau, and Vegas (an office favorite), but also have games we created like Rolling Strokes, Points, and Targets. Whether you’re new to side games or have been playing them for over 20 years, there are definite favorites by our users in the app.

Here are the Top 3 Side Games our users play in the app–

Dots (aka Junk). We can tell that our users enjoy the flexibility of keeping track of points in many different ways in our app. In Dots, you win points for specific achievements, like long drive, closest to the pin, lowest score, and so much more. Visit our article here which goes into more depth so you can learn all the ways to play and score Dots, all of which you can do in the 18Birdies app!

The second most played game? Points (also called Pointers).

The Points betting game in the 18Birdies app provides a flexible framework that allows you to play whichever way you like. Choose the number of betting units that correspond to each point, and then as you play, manually add points to each player’s total to reflect their on course performance. There are many variations to the way people play, so we account for that in the app.

And last but definitely not least by a long shot (over 14,000 users!) – the number 1 side game played in the app is….

This is best for a highly competitive bunch. Don’t know how to play? Easy- Each hole is a separate match. The player with the lowest score on a hole wins a skin. In the event of a tie, skins can carry over to the next hole. At the end of the game, the difference in total skins between you and other players will be your final win-loss with each losing player owing the winner the number of points associated with the difference.

Golfers can decide how many different categories they want included in the game, increasing the competitive atmosphere because you are playing for a variety of points on every shot. Plus, there’s very little setup and the app auto tracks for you!

Playing with friends at different experience levels? Make sure to check out the instructions in our app to adjust scoring to meet everyone’s needs.
