Key Stats for the Fort Worth Invitational: SG: Approach / Fairways Gained / SG: Around the Green

Lock of the week:

Jordan Spieth $11,700 - It feels like one of those weeks where playing the costly studs at the top of the DraftKings pricing makes sense. Enter the Golden Boy (with a small case of the “yips”). Jordan’s putting has been questionable, but after watching him this past Sunday, we’re encouraged. He was burning edges or misreading the putt altogether. His ball striking tee to green has been impeccable, and you know he’s itching for a win after all this talk about his slump. As a former winner here at Colonial, Jordan has gained 55 strokes total in the last five years on this classic track. For those that don’t know...that’s a [cussword] ton of strokes! He loves this place! We’re bouncing back to Jordan and believe the win is coming very soon.

Value Plays:

Matt Kuchar $9,300 - America’s favorite Skechers footwear model missed his first cut this past week since Trump was in office. He was vocal about his dislike for the golf course at the Byron Nelson, but he LOVES Colonial! He’s gained 28 strokes total here in the last five years. We love the thought that maybe his ownership is suppressed in GPP contests on DraftKings due to the MC last week. After making nearly 30 consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour, it’s hard to imaging Kuch misses two in a row. Plus, his accuracy off the tee and great wedge play of late should prove well on such a tight track with small greens. We like Kuch in GPP and cash games for DFS.

Embed from Getty Images Brian Harman $7,800 - Harman’s another player, like Kuchar, that has the skill set and tournament history to play really well this week at Colonial. Also like Kuchar, he’s disappointed recently with a MC at The Players and a 74th at Wells Fargo. If this recent form throws people off Harman, then we’ll have heaps of him in GPP games on DraftKings given his winning upside. He’s one of the best putters in this field and accuracy has been a calling card for years.

Adam Hadwin $7,600 - Hadwin is now the Canadian version of Matt Kuchar. He’s next in line on tour for consecutive cuts made, he’s a short knocker, he’s deadly accurate, and he doesn’t cuss. Aside from all of that, he’s made three consecutive cuts at Colonial and he’s gained six strokes tee to green in the last five weeks on the PGA Tour. This just feels like a flat out pricing issue on the part of DraftKings and we’ll gladly eat the chalk in GPPs if he’s highly owned. He’s also a safe cash option in DFS if you’re into that sort of thing.

Best bargain basement option:

Embed from Getty Images Kevin Streelman $7,100 - If you haven’t noticed, the theme for the day is accurate short hitters that can just about hear the ball land when they hit driver. Streels was super consistent until the missed cuts for the Players and Wells Fargo. Prior to that, he had 7 top 25s this season. This is a great track for Streelman to find his form again given the premium on accuracy and iron play. Despite the last two missed cuts, he’s still gained over three strokes tee to green in his last five events. His putter has let him down for the most part, but we all know putting can come and go at any moment. Hopefully, since the Players, Streelman found his putting stroke again.

Player to Avoid:

Rickie Fowler $10,400 - We do always like to give you a fade near the top end because it doesn’t make sense to fade a scrub that nobody is paying attention to. Fowler has avoided Colonial on his schedule since 2014 where he trunk slammed on Friday. He finished T54 in 2013. Fowler was last seen trying to shake his ball from a palm tree at The Players on his way to a missed cut where he lost four strokes off the tee. That’s not good at Colonial. You have to place the ball in the right spots on these tight fairways. Rickie’s always a popular play in GPPs and with the poor form off the tee and lackluster history...we’ll avoid confidently.
