Fantasy Golf on DraftKings - Shriners Open

Lock of the week:

Webb Simpson – $11,000  One of the few “pure as the driven snow” types that won’t fall victim to late night parties in Vegas would be Webb Simpson. We at least know he won’t be playing any competitive rounds hungover. He ended the 2017 season in good form and appeared to find the putting stroke he’s been missing since the anchor ban went into place. He’s gained 30 strokes on the field at TPC Summerlin in the last four years. In addition, Webb is top five in this field when it comes to SG: Approach, which is our heaviest weighted stat for the week. Given the values we’ve found at the bottom of the field, we’ll have a good amount of Webb this week in all contest types.

Value Plays:

Patrick Cantlay $9,700 – If there’s a guy in this week’s field that lights up the key stat categories better than Cantlay, we haven’t found him. Cantlay is 5th in DraftKings Scoring, 6th in SG: Off the Tee, and one of the best SG: Approach players on the PGA Tour. His Vegas odds to win should have him in the $10K range. We’ll have Patrick in all contest formats, but he’s the perfect spot to start a cash game lineup given his immense value.

Kevin Streelman $8,400 – “But Tour Junkies, I was looking for a poor man’s Webb Simpson kind of play this week.” Enter Kevin Streelman. Streelman’s last two events resulted in a T10 and T13. He’s 19th in SG: Off the Tee and 13th in SG: Approach in his last 24 rounds on the PGA Tour. Like Webb, he’s also got a great history at TPC Summerlin as he’s gained 22 strokes on the field in the last 4 years. He’s a cash game lock. He’ll be a little popular in GPP formats, but we don’t mind.

Nick Taylor $7,600 – Canadian Nick appears to have found something to kick off the 2018 PGA Tour season as his first three events resulted in a T23, T13, and T9. Taylor avoids the big numbers and keeps the ball in the fairway. He’s not a big scorer, but he’s a solid bet to make the cut at a price that’s tasty given his form. We’re comfortable enough with Nick in GPPs or cash game contests.

Best bargain basement option:

Aaron Wise $6,900 – We love Wise this week in GPP contests as we anticipate his ownership around 5%. Wise trains at TPC Summerlin and calls it a home track. He finished T10 here last year, and he’s motivated to lock in another solid finish this year. We’ve spoken with a couple of PGA Tour caddies this week that think Wise will be a fixture on the top of Tour leaderboards for years to come.

Player to avoid:

Anirban Lahiri $10,300 – While we acknowledge recent form for Anirban makes it difficult to avoid him, we defend our avoidance based on pricing and value. Anirban can score DraftKings points and could finish top five this week. However, if you look at the top ten priced guys on the slate, he’s easily the most likely to miss the cut. Lahiri is a volatile player. You’ve got to hit fairways at TPC Summerlin and that’s not exactly his strength. As the third highest priced player, he’s too risky for us to have any exposure. We’ll be avoiding completely.
