Fantasy Golf on DraftKings - The Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship
Lock of the week:
Patrick Rodgers $10,000 – The full field cut event is drawing our DFS focus this week as it gives us a real edge to be gained without the whacky Match Play scoring to throw us off. The resort course at Corales demands length and a hot putter. Patrick Rodgers has both at the moment. He’s always been lengthy off the tee and this past week finished third in SG: Putting at Bay Hill. The wide fairways of the resort course will turn this into a bomb and gouge fest requiring someone to get hot on the greens. The birdies and eagles will be flying this week, and you’ll need guys that can take full advantage. Rodgers is our favorite guy in the field period. He’s in great form. His wedge game has improved. There’s no reason to roster anyone higher than him on DraftKings. We love him in GPP and cash formats. Full send.Value Plays:

Bobby G ranks 3rd in SG: T2G and 11th in DraftKings points scored over the last 12 rounds compared to the rest of the Puntacana field. All of the boxes are checked here for Garrigus as this seems like the perfect event for him to win. We’ll have large helpings of the Garrigus in GPPs and cash contests.
Harold Varner $7,800 – 18Birdies ambassador and recent podcast guest, Harold Varner, presents a tremendous value on a course well suited for his aggressive style of play. Given his length and birdie or better tendency, Varner seems like a steal at $7800. His form leaves a little to be desired, but he’s easily a top player in this field. His ownership will likely be a little higher in GPPs given name recognition, but that won’t deter us.
Keith Mitchell $7,500 – Sea Island Mafia member, Keith Mitchell, presents an interesting GPP leverage play this week as the form isn’t stellar and he’s not a household name…yet. Mitchell ranks 5th in SG: Off the Tee and 16th in SG: Around the Green in the last 12 rounds against this field. Like our previously mentioned players, he’s long and aggressive with the potential to go stupid low at this resort course. He’s a full send in GPPs with winning upside.
Best bargain basement option:
Embed from Getty ImagesSteven Bowditch $6,500 – Our friend Bowdo has had well-documented troubles off the tee in the last 12 months. But, he returns to action after working quietly to straighten things out with swing coach Scott Hamilton last Summer. Any PGA Tour pro in the last five years would tell you how immensely talented Bowdo is. They would tell you about when he was a teenager in Australia people were talking about him and not Jason Day. The 2 time PGA Tour winner priced at the minimum and below [cussword] Tony Romo is a sin worthy of waterboarding! Bowdo’s game could easily rebound here, where the fairways are generous and his experience gives an edge. We’ll have plenty of exposure to Bowdo in GPPs allowing us to roster the studs at the top while counting on vintage Bowditch returning.
Player to Avoid:
Emiliano Grillo $11,600 – First rule of DFS…don’t roster anyone not sniffing the top five world golf ranking if they’re priced at the top no matter the event. Ok well, that’s not actually a rule, but you get the point. We like Grillo. We actually love Grillo. However, in a field where it’s this wide open and rewards length, rostering a shorter hitting globetrotter at max price doesn’t make sense. Grillo was in India two weeks ago. Flew to Orlando for Bay Hill last week. Now, he’s here taping his eyelids open in an alternate field event. We’d imagine fatigue, apathy and overall lack of course fit are reasons to fade the top priced player in the field. The 18Birdies app is now available for iPhone and Android devices.
