Fantasy Golf on DraftKings - DEAN & DELUCA Invitational
Lock of the week:
Sergio Garcia $10,800 - We absolutely love Sergio this week on a course that should set up well for a tremendous ball striker like he is. Strokes Gained off the Tee and Strokes Gained Approach are two of our favorite stat categories this week and Garcia is amongst the top 20 in the field in both. The Spaniard faltered a little on Sunday last week but had a tremendous back nine 29 on Saturday and is still on a heater coming off that Masters win in April. It’s obvious his confidence couldn’t be any higher either so stay on the Garcia train and ride it until we say get off!
Value Plays
Phil Mickelson $8,800 - Lefty in the “Value” play section is just weird which is exactly why he’s one of our favorite value plays this week. Rarely will you get a player of his caliber in the 8K range on DraftKings. The course has bentgrass greens this week which he typically fairs well on (see Augusta National) and if he can keep the ball in the fairway, which he should on a fairly short course that doesn’t require his sometimes wayward driver, he could easily finish top 10, and that's all you need based on price. Mick hasn’t played a ton here but has won so we know he can play the course. Take advantage of the price gift DK is giving you this week and lock him in your lineups.
Emiliano Grillo $7,800 - Grillo is a guy that can be hard to peg week to week, but coming off an 11th place finish in his last start, we see him trending up and want to be on him while the price is right. Grillo also checks the box for us on approach, shot proximity to the hole which will be key this week as Colonial Country Club has some of the smallest greens you will see all year on tour. Among our value picks this week, Grillo is our favorite GPP tournament play, as we see low ownership and with him flying somewhat under the radar.
Pat Perez $7,600 - Can someone please tell us when Mr. Perez is going to get some DraftKings pricing credit for his play? The guy is on absolute fire recently with seven straight made cuts, including five top-25 finishes in that span. That kind of form should continue this week on another course Pat has typically fared well on with four top 10 finishes in this event. Just like Mick, Perez has incredible value and another DK gift you have to take advantage of.
Best bargain basement option
Bill Haas $6,900 - Right now you’re asking yourself, what in the heck is Bill Haas doing in the “bargain basement option” category. Yes. It’s real. He’s under 7K for perhaps the first time in the last two years not counting majors. When you’re thinking of playing under 7K guys the main thing is whether or not the guy can make the cut. Haas hasn’t missed a cut at this tournaments since 2008! He also has three top-25’s in his last five starts at Colonial. Yeah, yeah, we know he has three straight MC’s but we will play Haas all day with the price he has this week. Expect him to get back on track and possibly even content. Lock him up!
Player to avoid
Bud Cauley $9,500 - Bud Cauley is a good golfer and we are sure he’s a nice guy and all, but we just can’t see playing him this week at his price with so many better options above and below him. Coming off four straight top-10 finishes probably does justify the price, but we just aren’t buying it this week. We would rather play Dufner or Kiz in the 9k range, then dip down into the value options we mentioned above. We often say “don’t get cute” on the podcast as far as overthinking a guy on a weekly basis. Well, this is the guy we say don’t get cute with this week and just fade Bud (Of course, you never fade Budweiser, so if you want to have one of those while you’re watching your green screens this week, that’s ok with us). Cheers!
