Fantasy Golf Picks for DraftKings - PGA Tour Genesis Open
Lock of the week:Dustin Johnson $11,400 - DJ has made 7 cuts at Riviera in 9 tries. Of those 7 cuts made...6 Top 10s! He has the lowest scoring average at Riviera in this field over for a player who’s logged more than 20 rounds. At $1200 less than Jordan Spieth, he’s too great of value to avoid. His form is heating up as well after firing 3 rounds in the 60s at Pebble Beach last week. Lock & Load!
Value PlaysBrendan Steele $7,100 - At $7,100 on DraftKings, Steele may be the greatest pricing travesty this week. Steele’s recorded Top 20s in four events this season. The California native that excels on the West Coast, has made five of six cuts at Riviera. This course sets up well for him as he checks the stat boxes in key categories including; SG:Approach, Scrambling, Bogey Avoidance %, and Total Bombing.
Brandt Snedeker $7,600 - Sneds is coming off a 4th place finish at Pebble is a tremendous value. The Nashville native loves putting on Poa Annua green surfaces, and Riviera is pure Poa. His primary skillset is being a top scrambler, which is important hitting into the small greens just in case you miss. Snedeker also checks the box in Bogey Avoidance %. Riviera is a tougher golf course. Avoiding big numbers is going to be key going into the weekend.
Bill Haas $8,000 - Bill may be one of our favorite plays this week. Haas has played two events this year with two Top 20s. His track record is strong here, making seven of 11 cuts at Riviera with two Top 10s. The 2011 FedEx Cup champ is experienced enough to know the proper angles and reads at Riviera. Being one of the best scramblers on Tour is another strong asset of his, and he checks the Bogey Avoidance % box as well.
Best bargain basement optionLuke List $6,400 - We’re going to go out on a limb with this selection. List is at the minimum price on DraftKings this week. Luke is not in the best form, but he was red hot earlier this year, and he’s had a few weeks off to get his game back together. He’s a bomber that can take advantage of a wet Riviera off the tee. There are 6 Par-4s between 450 - 500 yards. Luke checks the box in Total Bombing, Bogey Avoidance % and SG: Approach. He makes a ton of birdies and eagles. If he can make the weekend, he could easily finish Top 25 here. (Also like Jim Furyk, Tony Finau, and Kyle Stanley in the $6K range)
Player to avoid
Jimmy Walker $8,500 - Last week we faded him and it certainly paid off. There’s no reason to stop now. Just because he’s in California, doesn’t mean he’s a must play. This is a strong field with incredible pricing values around and below Jimmy. Walker is player that just isn’t in form at all for $8,500. He played all four rounds last week and only had 13 birdies. JDub’s is just not scoring right now. Coming off another Cali missed cut a couple of weeks ago at Torrey, his game seems to be out of sync. Walker is close to last in the field in Bogey Avoidance % and Scrambling. With Riviera being a little more difficult golf course, we don’t like those numbers. Jimmy is an easy fade for us.
