Fantasy Golf on DraftKings - The Northern Trust
Lock of the week:
Jordan Spieth – $11,200 – We talked to a PGA Tour player who has played Glen Oaks before and is in the field this week. He said the type of player you’re looking for on this golf course is this guy right here, Jordan Spieth. You need a good iron player who can put it on the correct quadrant of these greens but can also save strokes around the green as scrambling is key. Jordan’s been a little erratic off the tee lately, but luckily, these fairways are a little wider than average. He’s our stud at the top.
Value Plays:
Paul Casey $9,000 – We narrowed down five key stat categories that we thought would be important at this course based on sources who’ve seen the layout. There were four players in the field that hit four of the five categories. Spieth was one, Matsuyama was another, and Paul Casey was the third to rank at least top 20 in the field in those key metrics. Paul is a fantastic ball striker who’s found some great form this season. We like the value at $9,000. He’s a lock for us in GPP and cash games.Francesco Molinari $7,600 – The final player of the four to rank at least top 20 in four of five key stat categories is Molinari. He continues to prove he’s one of the world’s best players by finishing well in strong field events. His 2nd place finish at the PGA Championship came as quite the shock to us considering how short he is off the tee. However, Molinari is so deadly accurate off the tee, that he stays out of trouble while giving himself the best angles possible into tough pin placements. He’s a lock in GPP and cash games.
Jim Herman $7,100 – Jim is our GPP contrarian play of the week, and we’re loading up. We heard from a caddie source on tour that Herman was really the only guy in the field halfway familiar with this course. However, he’s also popping in two of our major stat categories being SG: Off the Tee and SG: Around the Green. He will be overlooked and low owned in most GPP’s and that’s where we’ll take our chances.
Best bargain basement option:
Graham DeLaet $6,800 – We’re going to trust the stats this week and roll with DeLaet. He’s the only player in the $6K range to check three of five key stat categories for us. He’s a total ball striker. He plays well on par 70 tracks with more par fours and his proximity from the fairway is tops on tour. He’s always a little scary because he could also finish dead last, but we’ll take our chances in GPP contests and trust the research.
Player to avoid:
Ollie Schniederjans $8,100 – The fade for Ollie is purely based on price and likely high ownership as a result of his 2nd place finish last week at the Wyndham. His week at the Wyndham was very impressive and a win for Ollie will happen because he’s that good. However, in this stacked field, he’s overpriced to us at $8,100. It’s a direct result of the prior week. He’s also likely to be higher owned after everyone watched him come close to taking down Stenson on Sunday. Prior to last week, Ollie hasn’t had even a top 20 since April at the Valero.
