Fantasy Golf on DraftKings - RBC Canadian Open
Lock of the week:Matt Kuchar $11,400 - We all know Kuchar’s form is impeccable at the moment despite the brutal defeat at The Open Championship. This week will be another strong performance for Kuuuuuuch. The Team RBC Pro played here the past five years and has landed four T25s. He's scoring birdies and in this weak field, he’s a lock to return value even at the higher price tag. We won’t have too much exposure in GPPs just due to our more balanced approach this week, but he’s as much a lock to finish well as any player in the field.
Value Plays:
Patrick Cantlay $8,100 - Cantlay may still be relatively unknown to those that don’t keep up with the PGA Tour as much as those likely reading this article. However, he’s a stud. He can score birdies and eagles at a high rate. The former UCLA Bruin hasn’t missed a cut all season and he’s landing a T10 or better in a third of his starts. We love his lower price tag this week, and his Vegas odds to win speak to the fact that he’s underpriced on DraftKings. With the balanced lineup construction approach we’re taking in GPP’s this week, Cantlay will be a staple.
Ben Martin $8,200 - Martin fits a very similar profile in terms of ability as Patrick Cantlay. He’s a tremendous scorer when he gets hot with the putter and takes advantage of par 5’s. Martin hasn’t missed a cut since the RBC Heritage in April, including a T5 at the Quicken Loans National and racked up 21 birdies at The Barbasol Championship last week in route to a T6 finish. Just below the average price on DraftKings means Martin will be a lock for us in all formats.
Chad Campbell $7,500 - “Big Tex” Campbell has been bringing the heat lately on the PGA Tour with five T20’s in his last seven starts. In his last twelve rounds, he’s been sub 70 in all but two of them. He is ranked as one of the highest players in the field in Greens of Regulation % and Driving Accuracy. Campbell has made 3/5 cuts at Glenn Abbey Golf Club in the last five years including two T25's, and $7500 is ridiculous compared to his Vegas odds to win. He will be one of our highest owned guys this week across all DraftKings contests.
Best bargain basement option:
Seamus Power $6,800 - Seamus is a Web.com Tour grad from last season that is quietly having quite the first year on the PGA Tour with 12/16 cuts made. He’s yet to find a T10, but is trending in the right direction with a T25 at the John Deere Classic and a T18 at The Barbasol Championship. His putter is so hot at the moment and it’s likely burning a hole in the headcover. The man from Ireland can hit it a long way to take advantage of these Par 5’s and if the putter stays hot, then watch out. He’ll be lower than 5% owned easily in GPP’s.
Player to avoid:
Dustin Johnson $12,200 - Dustin Johnson is our fade due to price, value, and recent form to an extent. DJ's losing strokes on the field in his last 3 events and at $800 more than Kuchar...it's the percentage play to us. He has performed well here in the past coming off an Open Championship, but given the very recent form being less than the norm for DJ, we'll fade away and stick with a more balanced LU construction strategy.
