Fantasy Golf on DraftKings - World Golf Championships - HSBC Champions
Lock of the week:
Tyrrell Hatton – $8,200 – Would you be interested in playing a guy that the general American public doesn’t realize has won his last two events? On his way to back to back victories this month on the European Tour, Hatton has fired 14 of his last 16 rounds in the 60’s. It’s hard to ignore that form at a price tag of $8,200 on DraftKings this week. His Vegas odds to win are 25/1. Those odds should have him priced in the high $9K range. Hatton will load up on DraftKings points this week at Sheshan, and we’ll have loads of him in our GPP and cash game contests. Side note: Hatton’s Twitter game is arguably the best in the business. You need to follow if you don’t already.Value Plays:
Francesco Molinari $8,000 – The “Italian Bill Haas” as we like to call him, has gained over 16 strokes on the field in his attempts at Sheshan International Golf Club. The course fits his game of finding fairways, pounding greens, and scoring well on par 5s. Molinari’s form is top notch coming off a T6 at The Italian Open two weeks ago. His Vegas odds to win are the same as Hatton and represent at least a $1000 value on DraftKings.Matt Kuchar $7,700 – Either the pricing guys at DraftKings have early-stage dementia or they just don’t care that Matt Kuchar at $7,700 is a value catastrophe worthy of waterboarding treatment! Kuch finished T10 or better in half of his 22 starts last year while keeping that momentum into the FedEx Cup Playoffs. According to Vegas odds, the price tag for Kuch should be almost $2000 higher. He may be owned at a high percentage in GPP contests, but this is chalk we’re willing to eat. He’s just too much of a value to leave out of your lineups. Is 50% exposure to a player too much…?
Thorbjorn Olesen $7,300 – The chain-smoking Dane has gained 16 strokes on the field when he’s played Sheshan. He’s coming into this event in top form on the European Tour. Olesen’s price on DraftKings is a rather tasty value as well with Vegas odds putting him at 80/1 to win. Olesen will likely see ownership levels around 5-7% and we like that leverage in GPPs. Smoke one for us Thorbjorn!
Best bargain basement option:
Mike Lorenzo-Vera $7,100 – Although he sounds like a character off of a 90s sitcom, Lorenzo-Vera is actually a rather swashbuckling Frenchman that’s got some real game both on AND off the course if you know what we mean. He recently finished T10 at the Italian Open with 21 birdies and two eagles. Scoring like that, in a no-cut event with ownership below 3% makes Vera a low-end value we’re willing to take a chance with at Sheshan.Player to avoid:
Charl Schwartzel $7,400 – Everyone’s favorite hairy armed South African has yet to post a round in the 60s in the month of October and he continues to be highly owned. In addition to the less than stellar form, Charl has lost six strokes to the field during his play at Sheshan. We’ll take our chances elsewhere in this price range and count on Charl’s average form to continue. The 18Birdies app is now available for iPhone and Android devices.
