What is Sixes

Sixes is a great 2 vs 2 team game to play with your foursome because you get teamed up with each member of your group for 6 holes at a time.

Every six holes it feels like you get a fresh start because you get paired up with a new teammate.

Sixes takes the pressure off of worrying about your overall score, and provides more of a thrill focusing on trying to beat the other team on each hole.

How to Play Sixes

As the name Sixes references, you’ll rotate every six holes to team up with another member of your foursome to compete in a match against the other two members of your group.

By the end of your round you’ll have been paired up with every other member of your group. It’s the perfect game if you're looking for something that involves team play.

To better understand the pairing for each 6-hole match, we’ll call each golfer 1, 2, 3, and 4.

  • Hole 1-6: 1 and 2 vs 3 and 4
  • Hole 7-12: 1 and 3 vs 2 and 4
  • Hole 13-18: 1 and 4 vs 2 and 3

The 18Birdies App automatically tracks the points you win on each hole during your Sixes match and shows the game breakdown with who has won the most points at the end of the round.

18Birdies tracks the entire game for you, all you have to worry about is playing golf.

Scoring Formats

In 18Birdies, you have the option to choose from a couple scoring formats when playing Sixes.

  • Best Ball: use the best score from each team to compare vs the other team to see who wins
  • Total Score: Add scores from players on each team together to get a total score for the hole to compare vs the other team to see who wins.

    Example a 4 and a 6 would be a total of 10 on a hole
  • High / Low: For each team, points are awarded for the best of the highest scores and aware for the best of the lowest scores.

So if you and your partner scored a 4 and a 6, and the other team scored a 5 and a 7, then the lowest scores would be compared and the highest scores would be compared.

In this example the team with the 4 and the 6 would win because the 4 beats the other team’s lowest score of 5, and the 6 would beat the other team’s highest score of 7.

Having 18Birdies track all the game progress will make your life much easier than tracking Sixes with pencil and paper.

Level the Playing Field

In Sixes, you have the option to use handicaps to level the playing field to make it fair when playing with friends of all skill levels. So if you have a friend that’s a scratch golfer and you have a hard time breaking 100, you can still play Sixes together and be evenly matched.

18Birdies will factor your handicap into the round for you and give you strokes on each hole to make the competition as close as possible.

Want to put some money on the line?

We all know betting adds another element to games. If you want to bet/wager money on a game during a round, 18Birdies will track how much you should receive or owe each player at the end of the round for the group.

18Birdies does all the work for you, all you have to do is add your scores.
