Fantasy Golf Picks: The CJ Cup

News & Entertainment

Fantasy Golf on DraftKings - The CJ Cup

Lock of the week:

Jason Day golf swing

Jason Day – $10,600  We suspect the major champion Aussie will be the lowest owned golfer in the top six options on DraftKings. In a no cut, 78 man field, you’ve got have an ownership edge in GPP contests in order to win money. Jason rounded back into form later in the year, and we know he can score with the best of them on this short par 72 track with Par 5’s all reachable in two. This is primarily an ownership play. We feel like all of the top six guys could play well here, but like last week, it’s about having that lower owned guy that pops (see Pat Perez).

Value Plays:

Byeong-Hun An $8,100 – We like a couple of local South Koreans in the field this week, but it seems as though An is the greatest value. He’s coming off a strong T21 finish last week at the Italian Open where he posted 20 birdies and one eagle. An is a natural scorer that can rack up the DraftKings points at an event like this without a cut. He’s competed in strong fields for years and is capable of a T5 or better. The price of $8,100 is too good to pass up given his pedigree.

Grayson Murray golf swing

Grayson Murray $7,800 – Do you know the golfer at the CIMB Classic last week that finished T69, but scored more DraftKings points than 14 golfers that finished T40 or better? Grayson Murray! Grayson was all over the place last week but managed to rack up as many birdies and eagles as he did double bogeys. He’s the type of player that you want in no-cut events as he can score in bunches with the upside of winning. We also suspect he’ll be lower owned when people only consider the T69 finish last week.

Charl Schwartzel $7,600 – Charl’s Vegas odds to win stuck out to us at initial glance. He’s a glaring value on DraftKings with his odds to win at 45/1. The South African is not coming off a great week in Malaysia, but he’s a premier ball striker that can work the ball both ways. The Club at Nine Bridges has doglegs on almost every hole requiring every shot in the bag and we think Charl’s got that.

Best bargain basement option:

Scottie Brown golf swing

Scott Brown $6,900 – Our homie from Aiken, SC loves golf courses requiring shot making and strategy. Nine Bridges will put that to the test for Brownie this week. He’s logged three T25’s in his last five starts, including one last week in Malaysia. Scott can also run hot when he’s on landing birdie after birdie after birdie. We like the low price tag and scoring upside.

Player to avoid:

JB Holmes golf swing

JB Holmes $8,400 – JB gets into The CJ Cup as a last minute alternate. He wasn’t in Malaysia last week so who knows how accustomed to South Korea the Kentucky boy is going to be when it comes time to tee it up. Plus, his last T15 finish came in July and given the price tag of $8,400, we’re not interested in seeing if JB pays off. He is a scorer, but he’s prone to the big number as well. There’s a fair amount of water at Nine Bridges and the 18th features an island green par 5 that JB will likely be seen dedicating balls to the local pond gods.
